WALK PAD

Privacy Policy for CUHK WALK PAD Study Application

About Us

This application is designed exclusively for patients enrolled in the “Impact of Wearable Activity Linked Kinetic Therapy on the Walking Performance and Vascular Health in Patients with Peripheral Artery Disease: A Randomized Clinical Trial (the WALK PAD trial)” project conducted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong. The study is led by specialists in cardiology and vascular medicine and their designated research team.

Purpose of the Study

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of wearable-assisted Home-Based Exercise Therapy (HBET), supported by the Huawei Watch, in improving walking capacity, lower-limb perfusion, quality of life, and cardiovascular health in patients with Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD). The WALK PAD App will collect your walking exercise data (such as steps, distance, heart rate, and activity duration) to assess adherence, physiological response, and therapeutic outcomes. The findings will help develop more effective and scalable home-based exercise programs for PAD.

Participation Nature

Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary. You may withdraw at any time without providing a reason. Upon withdrawal, the application will stop collecting any further data. Your decision to withdraw will not affect the quality of your current or future medical care.

Data Collection

To assess the effectiveness of wearable-assisted home-based exercise therapy for PAD patients, the application may request certain personal details such as age and gender. The application will also collect remote monitoring data transmitted from the wearable device, including:

By using this application, you agree to comply with and be bound by this statement. Uploaded exercise and physiological data will be reviewed daily by the research team. You may request to stop providing personal information and delete recorded data at any time by contacting the research team.

Disclaimer

This application is for research purposes only and is designed to assess the effectiveness of wearable-assisted home exercise prescriptions in patients with peripheral arterial disease. This application is not a medical device and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. The information and exercise guidance provided are for educational and informational purposes only and do not constitute medical advice. Participants must follow scheduled telephone consultations and clinic visits with the study physicians. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional before starting any exercise programme or making any medical decisions. The Chinese University of Hong Kong and the research team shall not be liable for any loss, claim, damage, cost, or expense arising from the use of this application.

Data Use and Confidentiality

All data and related records collected will be kept strictly confidential and will not be shared with third parties. By agreeing to this consent form, you authorize the University's designated researchers to use your data for research purposes. To protect your personal data, your name/identity will not be displayed in any reports, publications, or future publicly disclosed data. Under Hong Kong law, specifically Chapter 486 of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, you have the right to ensure the confidentiality of your personal data, including collection, supervision, retention, management, control, use (including analysis or comparison), transmission into or out of Hong Kong, non-disclosure, erasure, and/or disposal in any manner.
